



Niharika Das was born on 19th November 1955 to Rajkishore Das and Saubhagyamanjari Das in Bodhapur village under Kishore Nagar P.S. in the district of Cuttack. Having completed her primary education from Bodhapur U.P. School, Bodhapur, she took admission in nearby Sadhu Charan Vidyapitha, Nanpur. After obtaining her Master degree, Niharika Das joined as a Lecturer in History in Cuttack City College, Rajabagicha, Cuttack in 1979. She was highly appreciated by her students, guardians and colleagues for her competence as a teacher as well as her compassionate behavior. She got married to Narayan Mohanty of Mallipur village under Kishore Nagar P.S. in the District of Cuttack on 11th May 1981, and became ‘bohu’ in a typical joint family. He was then a Lecturer in Philosophy in F.M. Evening College, Balasore. They were blessed with two sons Nihar (1982) and Nirlipta (1986).
Niharika Das was actively engaged in research work for Ph.D. degree on ‘the Life and Time of Nabakrushna Choudhury’ under the guidance of Dr. Prasanna Kumar Mishra, Reader in History, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. She travelled widely throughout the State as required by her research work. However, the work could not be completed owing to her untimely death.
She was one of the eleven founder members of the ‘Rashtravadi Shikshak Parishad, Odisha’ which was established in the year 1993. She was an active and constant companion of her husband, Narayan Mohanty, in all his organizational works.
Niharika Das suffered from a rare disorder, systemic sclerosis, and was treated in S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and S.G. Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, but left for her heavenly abode on the 14th of December, 1994.
